The Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum is a fascinating and unique attraction housed in one of the last remaining Victorian villas in Bournemouth, originally designed and lived in by Sir Merton and Lady Annie Russell-Cotes.
The museum is highly decorated and contains a large art collection, beautiful furniture, sculptures, ceramics and artifacts from around the world. Lord and Lady Russell-Cotes collected many objects from their extensive world travels, during the late 1800's and early 1900's. East Cliff Hall was designed and built to house these collections, then gifted to the borough in 1908 and opened as a museum in 1922. Today a modern extension houses a temporary gallery area, a shop and a cafe.
The Russell-Cotes Museum is located on the east cliff over-looking Bournemouth beach (to the left hand side of the pier). The garden entrance to the museum is accessed from the steep east cliff promenade and the street entrance is accessed from Russell Cotes Road. Opening times are between 10am and 5pm Tuesday till Sunday and bank holiday mondays (closed Good Friday and Christmas day).
A great outing for the whole family. Wheelchair access is available to all areas except the upper-ground floor.
