This small attraction is located just outside of Lyndhurst on the A35 heading towards Christchurch. The snakes, frogs, toads and lizards that live within the New Forest National Park can all be viewed from net-covered, open-air pens at the Reptile Centre. Many of these animals are very difficult to spot in the wild due to their dwindling numbers or their secretive nature.
The rare Natterjack Toad, Sand Lizards, Slow Worms, Smooth snakes and the Adder, Britain's only venomous reptile, can all be viewed at the New Forest Reptile Centre.
Although small, the centre provides visitors with plenty of facts and information about the animals and their natural habitats. Informative signs are located at each of the pens and the knowledgeable staff are always pleased to answer any questions.
A picnic area is provided for visitors and a woodland walk named the 'Reptile Trail' can be taken from the car park, where toilet facilities are available. The Centre is on the New Forest cycle network, so be aware of cyclists if you decide to walk the 'Reptile Trail'.
It is advisable to visit the Reptile Centre on a warm sunny day as the reptiles and amphibians will be easier to see. The attraction is open 10am - 4.30pm between April and September and entry is free, although there is a small charge for the car park.
An enjoyable experience for the whole family and a must for reptile enthusiasts.
