Hatchet Pond
Wimborne Minster is an architecturally beautiful, historic, market town and Church in East Dorset. The town is situated about five miles North of Poole and sits at the confluence of the River Stour and River Allen. The history of the church dates back to the 8th Century and is well known for its chained library. This library was one of the first public libraries and it's the second largest chained library in the Country. Wimborne has an 'Historic Town Trail' consisting of three separate trails (look out for the 12 green plaques located at places of special historic interest). The grade II listed, 'Priest's House' Museum is one of Wimborne's oldest buildings and it retains many of its original features. The town is well sign-posted from all directions.
Hengistbury Head is a sandstone headland situated between Bournemouth and Milford-on-Sea. The picturesque, shingle and sand spit at the end of Hengistbury Head forms the narrow entrance into Christchurch Harbour. The spit can be reached by ferry from Mudeford Quay or by foot and land trains from Hengistbury. The beaches, Nature Reserve and walks around Hengistbury Head are very popular, especially during the peak season. Follow the road signs from Christchurch.
Hatchet Pond is the largest body of water in the New Forest and is very popular with anglers, locals and visitors alike. The pond and the beautiful surrounding area is the perfect location for a family picnic. The car park at Hatchet Pond is situated on the junction of the B3055 and the B3054. From Beaulieu follow the B3055 towards Brockenhurst. From Lymington or Brockenhurst follow the B3054 towards Beaulieu.
