'WightLink' and 'Red Funnel' both operate ferry services, for foot passengers and vehicles, between the English mainland and the Isle of Wight. The routes available are Portsmouth to Ryde or Fishbourne, Southampton to Cowes, and Lymington to Yarmouth.

This beautiful island is the perfect destination for a day trip or a relaxing break. With miles and miles of sandy beaches, loads of attractions and places of interest, picturesque villages and breath-taking countryside, the Isle of Wight is definitely worth a visit.

The island is home to the World's oldest and largest sailing regatta, a week long event known as 'Cowes Week', where amateurs compete against Olympic and World champions. Book your accommodation and ferry well in advance as 'Cowes Week' is extremely popular.
About 10 percent of the total area of the Island is owned and looked after by the National Trust, this includes historic buildings, 17 miles of beautiful coastline and areas of outstanding natural beauty. The Needles Old Battery, Bembridge Windmill and the 18th Century cottages at Brighstone are just a few of the properties owned by the National Trust on the island.

The amazing, English Heritage owned, Carisbrooke Castle is one of the main tourist attractions on the Isle of Wight . It is best known as the place where King Charles I was imprisoned after his defeat in the English Civil War. Another very famous English Heritage site is the beautiful Osborne House, best known as the summer residence of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

There are many attractions on the Isle of Wight including Butterfly World, Blackgang Chine and Robin Hill Adventure Parks, Dinosaur Isle, The Owl and Monkey Haven, Newport Roman Villa, Brading Roman Villa, Shanklin Chine, The Isle of Wight Steam Railway, The Isle of Wight Zoo in Sandown, The Needles Park, Yarmouth Castle, Calbourne Water Mill, and Quarr Abbey. There are many other wonderful places to visit on the island, just pick up a copy of the Isle of Wight Guide on the ferry crossing or take one of the many attraction leaflets available in the ferry terminal before you leave.
